He made his debut at London's Purcell Room aged twenty. A specialist in Russian and Eastern European music of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, he was above all a leading exponent of Kaikhosru Sorabji, performing the four-hour Opus clavicembalisticum and recording the seven-hour Sequentia cyclica.
