Carole Fredericks followed the success of her debut solo album, SPRINGFIELD, with COULEURS ET PARFUMS in 1999. The album name was no accident – "I love color," Carole said. "It's like life, the sun, it's smiling. As for perfume, I always wear the same mixture of an extract of coconut oil and of Nocturne de Caron. That is my signature."
Couleurs et Parfums is the natural evolution of an artist coming into her own. Carole surrounded herself with good friends and musicians – Yvonne Jones, Jean-Jacques Goldman, Jacques Veneruso and newcomer, Frédéric Kocourek, to create a rap, rhythm and blues inspired album. Everything came together. Carole's early experiences in America, her love affair with France and Senegal found full expression in 11 original tracks.
Couleurs et Parfums shows off Carole's extraordinary ability to sing in French and English. The album features Kaai Djallema a cover of Cyndi Lauper's Time After Time sung in Wolof and English, plus four hit singles:
Personne ne Saurait (a duet with boy group Poétic Lover debuted in August 1998)
Qu'est-ce qui t'amène? (debuted April 30, 1999)
Respire (debuted September 27, 1999)
Le Prix a Payer (April 16, 2000 debuted with only radio promotion)
Released in 2007 and repackaged in 2025, COULEURS ET PARFUMS Reissue CD with bonus track Veille features the French language version of VAIN.
