Many songs in the jazz repertoire are written with lyrics. In addition to a beautiful melody these songs provide an interesting chord progression for improvisation, which is an enticing aspect for the jazz musician. Sometimes for instrumental performance, only the chord progression is retained. An alternative melody is created to evoke a more spontaneous, improvised feeling. Such a melody may be called a line.
Most of the songs on this album are lines; all are original compositions.
